Every free e-book on Project Gutenberg passed through several rounds of volunteer proofreading to fix scanning errors and preserve formatting, and anyone can join a round after a short registration and a practice page. You work one page at a time, so a single ten-minute session leaves the book better than you found it, with no obligation to finish anything.
